The principal of the high school appointed me as one of four student treasurer's on the Student Board of Finance, a position which I held for the first three years of high school. As a treasurer, I analyzed, recorded, and oversaw all extracurricular financial accounts for Shaker High school clubs and activities. This experience provided me with financial skills such as recording transactions, balancing books, and overseeing cash flow and fundraising efforts.

Alyssa Decker was recognized for studying abroad
Over the summer of 2017, I traveled to Montpelier, France to improve my education of the French language. I studied French language and culture at L'Institut Europeen de Francais with international students from all over the world. Assimilating into southern french culture was an experience of a lifetime, and my skills in speaking, listening to, reading, and writing in French improved significantly from the classes I took. In the future, I would love to explore further opportunities to enrich my education with studying abroad, as I feel it will become an asset when entering the workforce!

Circle K International
I was a member of Key Club International for four years, and was also elected Treasurer during my senior year of high school. I loved being able to give back to my community through volunteer work and service. Over the years, I volunteered with the Regional Food Bank, children's holiday festivals, elderly at several nursing homes, the regional Equinox Thanksgiving dinner, and much more! Through my membership in this club, I discovered that community service is very rewarding experience, and since then I have made sure to incorporate as much as I can into my adult life.

Shaker Student Government
I was an active member of Student Government for all four years of high school. I was also one of four treasurers of the Student Board of Finance, which was considered a subgroup of Student Government. This experience helped me to develop many financial skills as well as providing me with the opportunity to give back to my school community. Over the years, I continuously helped with school spirit activities as well as acting as a liaison between the student body and staff.

Colonia Town Youth Court
Starting as a freshman in high school and continuing until graduation, I volunteered my time to the Colonie Youth Court program led by the Public Safety Department of Colonie. Through this program, I was trained and educated about the various positions of court members like defending and prosecuting attorneys, judges, court clerks, victim advocates, and jury forepersons. As a member, I had to attend court "trials" where we sentenced youth offenders to community service hours as restitution for their crimes. This experience opened my eyes to our town justice system and it made me curious about possibly pursuing a career in the legal field. More recently, I decided that this is definitely the path I want to take!

Hostess, Server, Bartender, and Manager at Bellini's Italian Cuisine and Pizza Restaurant

Initially hired as a hostess, I diligently completed my work each shift and received four promotions since my official hiring date. Each promotion came with higher pay, as well as more opportunities to learn and develop my sales and human relations skills. This job has helped educate me about working as a team with my coworkers to accomplish various tasks and pleasing the customers. More recently, I have been training to become a manager. With that training, I have noticed I have a greater perspective on just how much work goes into running an organization, and I have been very grateful for this opportunity afforded to me. In the future, I hope to utilize the accounting, managerial, and human relations skills that I developed and apply them to future internships, jobs and other opportunities.
