Emmanuel College, Class of 2015
From Plainville, MA
Hi, Im Amanda Lydon. I am excited to be graduating in May of 2015 from Emmanuel College in Boston. Over the course of my college career, I have studied Mathematics and Secondary Education and am looking for an opportunity to teach middle school or high school math.
Event planning and organization is also an interest of mine since I have been extremely active in extra-curricular activities; I am passionate about helping others reach their fullest potential and am often found volunteering with students. During high school I was on the executive board members of the Leo Club with over 100 volunteer hours for community service projects along with Peer Leadership developing wellness-promoting events using social norms. As a college student I volunteered during the weekends for my first year, then I became involved in the Campus Programming Board and put on the 'big events' on campus. I co-organized a Casino Night for family weekend, where over 300 people played poker, blackjack and other card games to win prizes working with a budget of about $4,000. Other events I coordinated include multiple Moonlight Breakfast events for over 500 students, a $500 day-long scavenger hunt through Boston, a Spring Carnival for the six Colleges of the Fenway with a $20,000 budget, and Concerts on the Quad featuring different bands. As a Resident Assistant I was required to hold 6 programs during the course of a semester about different topics that are relevant to students, some of the programs included Valentines Day Cards for senior citizens, a Holiday Party, ResLife Clue, Milk, Cookies, and Board games, and a Sophomore and Transfer Student Dinner. As a member of the Education Club I was able to assist with Mission Grammar Easter Egg hunt and have discussions about current issues in education. I became the Treasurer and was able to pass a budget for the first time. As the President I organized a Food Day event about healthy living and food justice for 3rd grade students.
