Autumn Blalock

Majored in Psychology/Theatre
Albright College, Class of 2020
From Capitol Heights, Md.
I am a very hard working individual. Failure is not an option for me. I strive for my academics, my family, and those that need someone to fight for them. I am in love with both psychology and theater, and I intend to use both in order to start what will one day be one of the largest non-profit organizations in America with a headquarters in either Maryland or the nation's capitol. I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and I hope that college will give me more than I can even imagine.

Theater for Change: Theater use in Public and Private Health
A Two-fold research project that involved a detailed literature review and the development of a theory-based experiment that tests the quantitative effects of theater on behavioral health. Literature Review Abstract: "The work of theatre artists in recent years has largely turned towards combating or calling out social issues and political concerns. This generation of theatre-making, often referred to as conscious or political theater, often employs tactics of theories such as those of Bertolt Brecht, Augusto Boal, and Aristotle. These practitioners found means of theater that could educate an audience, through the manipulation of plot, character, theme, language, music, and spectacle (Aristotle, 335 BCE). Theater, in its own right, has long been a means of connecting with large bodies of people and shaping of public culture. It has only quite recently, however, become a means of serving the purpose of influencing physical and emotional health. This paper will review the history and current use of applied theater techniques as a means of promotional of health behaviors, then discuss the direction of this practice in future use."
