Bahar Dhowan

Majored in Biomedical Engineering, Minored in Mechanical Engineering
Purdue University, Class of 2017
From West Lafayette, IN
My objective is to use my leadership experience, interpersonal skills and technical knowledge to develop elegant solutions for difficult problems. I am currently a 5th year BS/MS BME student specializing in drug delivery systems and electrical implant devices. I expect to graduate in 2018 with a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Electrical Engineering. Since I have been a student researcher for 4 years now, I have obtained a ton of experience in device fabrication and testing. I am a passionate leader and a dedicated researcher. I love working in teams to build my network and develop my interpersonal skills. I have been involved with many leadership positions and social service projects which have allowed me develop an all rounded personality. I have been the president of AEMB (Biomedical Engineering Honors Society) for about a year and a half under which I manage 50 chapters of AEMB in universities across the United States, developing new ideas and revamping their PR. Some of the other leadership roles I've held include my involvement with the Women in Engineering program and BME diversity chair to name a few. I have also co-founded an NGO promoting education for underprivileged children in Mumbai, India. To gain experience working at a larger firm and developing my technical skills, I have completed a co-op with Cook Medical, where I have had a fantastic opportunity to work with aortic stents and other medically invasive devices. I mainly focused on DHF remediation efforts involving bench testing devices according to ASTM standards. To gain a breadth of experience, I decided to intern at a smaller family owned firm to understand the face paced and friendly environment that these firms offer. I worked at Helmer Scientific in Noblesville, IN for the summer of 2015. My summer internship involved a large amount of 3D modelling (Inventor), python programming, experimental design, testing and statistical analysis.
