- Responsible for specimen processing, referral lab send-outs and rapid testing - Accountable for the generation of laboratory results from the work area into the laboratory computer system and the editing and verification of the results recorded into the computer system - Evaluate the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures to - Perform testing on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques that require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision - Performs other procedures as directed in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology - Familiar with all urgencies (STAT, ASAP and Routine) - Participate in staff training / BCLS & ACLS Certified - Acts as a liaison between clinical and supporting services on departmental updates - Provide input regarding short and long term planning - Reviews and updates section policies as needed - Primary individual from P&LMS responsible for hospital wide training in phlebotomy techniques and hemolysis - Adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements of a CAP certified clinical lab and P&LMS policies and procedures for quality assurance and competency as well as continuing education requirements - Delegates responsibility and assigns work areas for employees to ensure a smooth workflow for the shift - Meet the needs of the patient while supporting the VA mission - Provide administrative support to direct supervisor and other P&LMS management - Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products also maintain a proper record for quality control reports in both the CP and AP areas as assigned - Follow established cleaning and safety procedures and manuals for the operation, maintenance and interim repair of applicable manual or automated equipment used in my work area - Maintain a neat and clean work area and keep a detailed log of disinfection
