Elley Berg

University of San Diego, Class of 2017
From Thousand Oaks, CA
I am a curious humanitarian with a passion for people and a desire to lead change. During my sophomore year of high school, I volunteered as a teen mentor at a hospice and have since then imagined myself embodying a lifestyle and working in a heath field that promotes the welfare and dignity of all individuals. At the University of San Diego, I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and Business Management. I expect to graduate in May 2017. As part of my coursework, I have completed projects that demanded strong professionalism, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication. Beyond my studies, I look for connections between my interests and strengths, often finding myself involved in organizations related to cultural awareness, social justice, community service, and community building. My experience as a leader and involved member on campus has given me opportunities to foster an enthusiasm for accomplishing both personal and team-oriented goals. My most recent internship with the San Diego Psychological Center as a children's social skills group facilitator has given me the space to learn from experts in my field of interest while gaining a realistic understanding of my field of interest. As for the future, I am an aspiring psychologist looking to specialize in clinical health in hopes of actively collaborating with other medical professionals. My ambitions lie in creating a more holistic view that considers the biological, psychological, and social factors affecting medical treatment of illness. Following my graduation, I would love to spend time participating with an international or domestic volunteer program or earning certification to practice as a child life specialist. Ultimately, I hope to earn a degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in health or child development. I am excited to see how I can further contribute to effective, compassionate practices in the health and human services.
