Gladys Melendez

As a high school drop out, I never dreamed I would be able to obtain higher education. I was a statistic of teen pregnancy and withdrew from school during my Junior year. After the birth of my second child I obtained a GED certificate and thought I would never be able to accomplish a college degree. In the year 1999-2000, I enrolled into Springfield College and made Dean's list during my first semester. Unfortunately, I relocated to Puerto Rico and withdrew from school. This shattered my world. Once again I was unable to complete a much desired dream. I am now on the second month of my third and last semester and am pleased to say I have made Dean's list for two consecutive terms. Education is a lifelong commodity and it's value will never depreciate. I was once a woman that lacked confidence, assurance and had no hope or dreams towards empowerment for the future. This school gave me the vision to turn my dreams into goals and make those goals a reality. For I am empowered and self-sufficient! I am honored and I give GOD, my higher source, the glory for this accomplishment! I thank the instructors of Springfield College for there dedication and passion. Thank you all!
