Goma Thapaliya
I was a nurse in Nepal. I came to the US during fall 2009 to study BSN at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. It is a holy place for me where I met many many good friends, faculty and the Sisters of Charity. My 3 years stay at CMSV has been one of the most wonderful experience in my life. It would cost me nearly $2000 to get a ticket to go home during the summer break. But, Sisters of Charity were so generous to me that they allowed me to stay with them during the summer 0f 2010. It is the place where you will never become a homeless, and in fact you will help the homeless people in New York city with the grace and guidance of Sisters of Charity. Some faculty members and employees at CMSV were aware of my student visa status, financial situation and my good academic background. I was hired as resident assistant during the fall of 2010. Room and board, and my stay during vacation was not an issue then. At the mean time, I had also applied for nursing credentialing and license verification for New York State. During my junior year, all my documents and license verification from Nepal was approved by New York State. Nursing Department at CMSV, esp. Dr. Carol Vicino, Ms. Rothman, Ms. Simmons, Ms. Mary Dibono were very supportive during my preparation for the board exam. I passed my NCLEX-RN in Jan 2012. I am graduating now in 2 days, all "A"s this semester and with CUM LAUDE. :) I wish my parents could understand what all these mean. I call them, skype them and tell them in simple words that their hard work and truthful life paid off. I paved my paths based on a dream that was impossible from where I was before. There was one person who believed on my dream and had the capacity to make it real for me. She did. Her name is Sheila Berry. She sponsored me for my education. Thank you Sheila. I know what sacrifices you have made to make this dream come true. Thank you God, Thank you my family, friends and my husband and CMSV community for making my stay in US possible, productive and enjoyable. I have been helped and blessed all my life with all these good people. I believe in passing this on to new people. There must be many people, many kids out there with dreams like mine. I want to reach them and help them the same way I was helped during my journey at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. I want to tell them that they should not stop dreaming even if it sounds impossible. Dreams make life beautiful if it comes true, and even if it does not it keeps us diverted from negative thoughts. :) Please have beautiful and positive dreams, pray to God and take one step every day to follow your dreams. Wish you all a blessed years and hopeful life.
