Jacob Conley

Early on, I joined a landscaping company as a typical summer day-laborer and found appreciation in the back breaking work and the ability to be outdoors. I felt like I had something to boast about working 40+ hours a week in the dog days of summer. I soon progressed to become the operations manager where I was in charge of keeping the schedules up to date, talking with clients and overseeing a team of four. The company grew exponentially while I was there and taught me more than I would have ever imagined. The five Summers I worked with this company taught me leadership skills, how to build customer relationships and successful ways to recruit and train employees. I started my academic career at James Madison University and currently pursuing a degree in Management. My college classes and experiences have given me the opportunity to learn valuable material that I am ready to apply to the real world. As a student of James Madison Universitys business program, I was required to take courses in the different functional areas of business, such as finance, operations, and marketing, to understand how businesses are integrated. Also numerous team-based activities helped me develop my interpersonal skills and showed me what it takes to be an effective leader. Now Im a junior and Im ready to use the skills I have learned and grow professionally as I search for an internship opportunity. More recently, I became an intern at Kohl's Department stores as a Store Management Trainee. I'm learning more as I progress, not only about retail but how to be a sucessful manager. I look forward to the next few weeks as I progress through the internship program. Im willing to take on anything thrown at me with confidence. I know what it means to work hard and want to become a valuable asset to my future company. I enjoy meeting new people and learning more about management as well as other aspects of business.
