James Cooney

My name is JD Cooney, and I am a senior Instrumental Music Education major at UW-Whitewater. I am originally from Waukesha, WI graduating from Waukesha North High School. My goal is to one day educate young musicians at the high school level and provide high quality arts education to public school students. I currently maintain a private trumpet studio where I interact one-on-one with students ranging from 6th grade to 12th grade. In addition to private study, I work with the former and current class AAAA state marching band champions at Waukesha North High School. On campus, I can be found performing in solo recitals, concerts with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, etc. I am also a writing, general education, and music tutor for the University and have devoted the past two years to aiding the education departments as a teaching assistant for entry level classes. I am on track to graduate magna cum laude in December 2013 as a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi, both academic fraternities restricted to students in the top %10 and 7.5% of their class.
