Janelle Winship

This fall I will be entering my senior year at Emmanuel College pursuing a degree in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics. My future goals are focused on pursuing a career in scientific research. Over my three years at Emmanuel, I have learned extensive time management skills as well as laboratory skills that have built my foundation for scientific inquiry. I have excelled in numerous laboratory courses at Emmanuel and currently maintain a GPA 3.701. I have assisted teachers multiple teachers as I have graded homework for the Intro. to Cellular and Molecular Biology course and I was a laboratory assistant for the Principles of Chemistry 1 course. I have also been a member of an honors biology research journal club which met once a week to discuss articles and ultimately proposed an experiment to study the interactions of lymphocytes with the lymphatic endothelium. Last summer I began conducting research assistant on campus. I, along with colleagues, study the interactions of DNA restriction enzymes and how these enzymes find their binding site. This research continued throughout the school year and we attended the annual Biophysical Society meeting. I also work as a peer tutor for general physics 1&2. I am a level 1 certified tutor from a national association that holds individual tutoring sessions as well as weekly group sessions.
