Her artwork ranges from collaged and sewn works on paper, to drawings, printmaking, book art, and photography. Jessica received her B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She has also studied fine art and photography at the Instituto Allende in Mexico. Jessica is currently completing a masters degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies where she is using her art and research to deepen the understanding of biracial identity development and a new mestiza consciousness. About the Design Studio Jessica has designed from coast to coast, joining the creative teams of MTV, McCann Erickson, DIRECTV, Radarworks, and PixInk. She has also helped to develop several magazine launches and re-designs with two of the world's largest and most successful magazine publishers; Time Inc. (People and Cosmo) and Hearst Magazines (InStyle, YourLook, and Custom Publishing). She has designed work for: Yahoo!, Dove, Macys, NetFlix, GuideStar, The City College of New York, USC, LA Public Library, the County of Santa Clara, among others. With her own company, she has managed clients such as Pinkberry, California State University, CampusExplorer, 1 to 1 Academic Tutors, Ergobaby, Edelman PR, GirlVentures, Los Angeles Business Journal, McCann Erickson, NetDNA, Clean Plates NYC+LA, California Association of Relaters, Shopper Sciences, SolarReserve, Transamerica, Derek Jeter, and many more. Her studio is solely responsible for creating the successful brand identity for Clean Plates NYC; Manhattans first healthy food guidebook (now in L.A. and Brooklyn). The guide is sold at the Museum of Art & Design in NYC and other retailers which showcases items for their design excellence. Jessica developed the companys branding, corporate identity, the book series design, advertising, marketing, and trade show graphics. Jessicas studio also developed the brand identity for Respect Institute: an organization, which will empower millions of youth and their influencers. She is the organization's consulting creative director. About her artwork Jessica was born in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. While growing up in Pennsylvania, she consistently journeyed back to her birthplace, examining her identity while traveling and exploring the span of her native land. These solo journeys, at a young age through adulthood, influenced her significantly. Jessicas artwork expresses her vivencias (its paradoxes and differences), as a multidisciplinary and multicultural artist. Her pieces investigate fluid identity negotiations, mestiza and hybrid consciousnesses, feminist aesthetics, and domesticana. Jessicas techniques often incorporate collage (layering discarded elements, collected specimens, photographs, and textures), echoing a woven and complex identity. Many of her pieces reference her braided identity along with the traditional womens work of sewing, working with fabric, and decorative elements (influenced by both of her grandmothers). Her artwork acts as sutures to the sometimes-fractured experiences of women, Chicanas, and multiracial individuals; much like the healing qualities of Chicana Feminists work. Her intimate pieces narrate womens voices, through images, stories, and the use of domestic tools.
