Katherine Jones

Majoring in Liberal Arts And Science-Humanities And Social Science
Hudson Valley Community College
From Waterford
Katherine (Kay) Jones grew up in Waterford, NY and lives with her family in a quiet neighborhood at the top of a hill. She and her younger siblings were homeschooled on that hill by their mother. Graduating high school at 16, Kay began college at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC). Unsure at that young age what her professional goals were, she took time to explore opportunities in the work world and hone in on dreams. Kay, who has an artistic bent as well as an interest in business, discovered that she wants to style hair and, ultimately, to run her own salon. In taking some courses at The Orlo School of Hair Design and Cosmetology, she confirmed her passion for styling. Kay is putting herself through school without loans. She took a break from her studies to earn more tuition money and to learn first-hand about customer service. She worked at both Hot Dog Charlies and Burger King, and was given responsibility for closing the restaurants at night. Having worked part time as a customer service assistant in her fathers firm, Nest Egg Financial Planners, and having run church play groups for young children, Kay applied eagerly for the receptionist position at Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy. She was thrilled to be offered the position. Come July, she will be ready to move on to bigger and better things.
