Kathleen Carlos
From Visalia, CA
I am a senior Biology student at Cal State Los Angeles. I am interested in neuroscience, and specifically in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases. In Fall 2013 I will enroll in an MD/PhD program, where I will gain the skills necessary to become a pediatric neurologist that will run my own molecular neuroscience laboratory. I have three years of experience working in both cognitive and molecular neuroscience laboratories, but am currently working in a molecular biology of development laboratory, where I am constructing luciferase reporter plasmids. These vectors will be used to test the functional importance of specific MyoD binding sites near the Acta1 gene. I stay busy with involvements in various programs and societies such as MARC U*STAR, CSU-LSAMP, and Golden Key International Honour Society. When I don't have other commitments, I like to spend my time playing volleyball and dabbling in makeup artistry.
