Mary Ann Muto

Majored in English Lit Conc
Nazareth University, Class of 2014
From Rochester, NY
I started working at age 16 and began 1 year at college before accepting a job offer at Eastman Kodak Company for 15 years. I also attended night college while working for my Associate's degree. I also attended Hochstein music school at a different time period before going back to college while working at Kodak. I learned skills at Kodak that are valuable in other areas of my life. I worked Production service team, and we had to take classes and learn about the Corporate world. I decided to leave Eastman Kodak after I was offered a position at at local college. I kept up all music and arts after work in the evenings. I am now self employed as a Professional singer and dance, musician. I decided to finish college and get my Bachelor's degree in English literature. I am full time involved in the arts of music, theater and dance full time. This is what ultimately is fulfilling and rewarding to me. I am grateful for the good vast work experience as I had to work and could not go directly to college after graduation. It was important to me to finish college since I had started. I believe in finishing the work that you start. My working in the business world is a very important aspect that pertain to my career in the arts and I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to learn those skills, to brain storm, to innovative and creative and to think creatively also in business pertaining to artists. It's very important to also love what you do and that is the passion that drives me.

It is my business so I gained a great deal of business knowledge from working at companies such as Eastman Kodak my last job, Xerox Corp., American Express Comp. I was not able to attend college directly from high school so I earned my degree through part time night school for 2 years and then attended full time the last 2 years. I have studied privately voice, piano, saxophone, guitar and harmonica. I also have studied for 2 years Theater Arts and have a degree. I love the arts. It's very important to have knowledge of business skills if your a student or work on the job. I've also taken business classes to enhance my creativity in business. It's important to know how to produce, package and market your product. It's also very important to have knowledge of investing. I personally love the performance end of the arts and mostly music, but I have found with business skills it makes it that much easier to creatively finance or come up with solutions and have the creativity to get the product sold. These are important necessary skills that I believe any artist should have. The business aspect will help keep the artist from frustrating ways of spending too much time and not being successful so hand in hand as everything relates one to another on your way to being successful and I believe in success and never doubt nor matter what circumstance may come my way.
