Merline Labissiere

Born and raised in the fast and fashionable city of Miami, Fl., Merline Labissiere a first generation designer and with an impeccable flare for color. Her mother, born in Haiti, moved to America in the late 1970s to provide the next generation with a bright future. Merline watched her mother struggle to provide her with a life completely different from her own upbringing. This instilled a practice of hard work that bloomed into a constant drive for greatness. The journey began at the age of twelve when Merline learned to crochet. Her passion of creating wearable art opened her eyes to a whole new world and gave her the confidence to approach other forms of media. Soon she found her inspiration and artistic gifts for fashion, set and costume design as well as wedding dcor. As a freelance designer, she has decorated several homes, and planned a myriad of weddings, receptions and banquets. Most notably, Merline is the designer behind the clothing lines Labissiere, Underscore and The Maroons. Her love of fashion fused with her love of architecture led her to the Savannah College of Art and Design. There she expanded her architectural background while completing her Bachelors of Fine Art in Fashion Design. At SCAD, Merline learned to gracefully combine her two passions into a futuristic and nontraditional fashion line. The aspect of mixing traditional sewing techniques with nontraditional materials fuels her design ideology for fashion. Merline has an imagination that will captivate the world with a single breath.
