Miriam Pourciau

Majoring in Child And Family Studies
University of Louisiana at Lafayette
From Lafayette, LA

I came back to school after 15 years. Through the 15 years of being out of school, I lived my life and went through trials and triumphs. Since I was 8 years old I knew what I wanted to do with my life. It wasn't until I was recovering from a major surgery in 2009 that I realized I still had that urgency to be a Counselor. I got my "ducks" in a row and planned to start ULL again. I started in Fall of 2010 and though it has been a tough 2 years being older and going back to school; I don't regret a second of it. I am learning so much and am so grateful to have the opportunity to come back to college to fulfill my calling. The staff at Office with Disabilities and the staff at Student Support Services with Disabilities has gone above and beyond to adhere to my accommodations. I have chosen my Minor Concentration in Psychology. I have the "upper hand" when it comes to most of my classes because I have had the life experience to back it up. I not only learn how to help others, but at the same time I learn so much about myself. UL has some of the best Professors; with the exception of a few. I am so grateful to have been accepted into this school!
