Miles Martschink

The Citadel, Class of 2018
From Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
I am a Mechanical Design Engineer for RMF Engineering, Inc by day and a Graduate Student pursuing a Masters in Business Adminstration with the Citadel at night. I have always striven to have a multi-faceted skill set, capable of applying hard work, logic, and creativity to as many situations as possible. At Old Dominion University I obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering while also being the team captain and a top competitor for the schools Varsity Sailing Team. The student-athlete lifestyle quickly expanded my knowledge beyond the classroom as I learned the value of leadership, teamwork, time-management, hard work and dedication. After graduating ODU I returned to my home town of Charleston, South Carolina where I obtained a job as a Project Engineer with Hannah Solar Government Services. In this role I oversaw the design, procurement and construction of commercial scale solar arrays. My diverse skill set was put to a very thorough real world test as I was appointed to the role of lead project manager for a solar array installed on the Marine Base in Camp Lejeune, NC. This system consisted of 2800 solar panels affixed to a large steel canopy atop a four story parking garage. The whole project took 4 months to complete and gave me the opportunity to organize and lead 30 workers from three different companies to successfully complete the project. The quality and efficiency of our team earned high praise from Turner Construction, the projects General Contractor, who repeatedly names HSGS as the best all-around sub-contractor they worked with on the Camp Lejeune project. It was a challenging 4 months where I learned many of the skills necessary to efficiently make designs into reality. Many of my colleagues view me as a hard working team player with strong interpersonal skills and a thirst for knowledge. I aspire to take these skills and apply them to a design and engineering position where I can constantly innovate and create.
