February, 25 2016 - Verified by Emmanuel CollegeAs a long term biology substitute, I am responsible for the education of 5 high school level biology courses, including College Preparation Biology for Sophomores, Anatomy and Physiology for Juniors and Seniors, and AP Biology for Seniors. It is my duty to prepare students for upcoming exams, and future courses they may wish to take.
As an Intern for the Waterways department, I was responsible for creating and implementing the Standard Operating Procedure for the Chapter 91 Point Development Tool (PDT) to be utilized by all Mass DEP departments. In addition to this, I added over 300 data points to the current PDT to be rolled out to the public, cataloguing all current waterway development licenses. I also aided the Bacteria Source Tracking Team in the collection and recording of E. coli contamination of local water resources.
I began working for the Wesemann lab as an intern, but was promoted to Research Technician due to my reliability, curiosity, and determination. I worked on numerous research projects during my time with the research team, but was mainly responsible for mammalian culture, limiting dilution analysis, flow cytometry, molecular cloning, bacterial collection, and buffer preparation for Dr. Yuezhou Chen. Our research dealt with the relationship between our symbiotic microbial community and the differentiation of immune cells within the gut. This research is expected to be published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine.
As a peer mentor for an introductory biology course, I was tasked with providing personal and professional support to first year students to ease the transition period. I was responsible for aiding 40 students with homework assignments, exam preparations, and improvement of overall semester grade.
As a Program Coordinator for the Old Colony YMCA, I was responsible for running the before and after school child care program for children aged 5-12. This position required cautious supervision of program employees and children, planning of daily educational and physical activities, and maintaining clear communication with parents and guardians.
