I think of myself as a collage; my interests and skills are seemingly unrelated but create a unique combination. Who I am: Undergraduate (BSc. in Chemistry & Biological Sciences) Teaching and Lab Assistant (FIU Chemistry Dept.) Scholarship Coordinator (FIU Chaplin School) Chemistry Tutor What I have done: Presented research posters at 245th & 247th ACS National Meeting (Invasive species and possible benefits to human health) Promoted/Advocated for STEM education Planned/assisted with grant proposals, donor cultivation, stewardship and administering scholarships. Experience: Chemistry Education Hospitality Laboratory Technology/Safety Team Building/Quality Assurance I have always had a diverse group of interests, such as hospitality, design, culinary and science. However, I always enjoyed the sciences most of all. Therefore, upon admission to Florida International University I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology. The double major allows me to obtain more depth and breadth of topics that I would merely cover if I chose to focus on only one of the two. I chose Biology and Chemistry not only because they are my favorite subjects, but because they fulfill a desire to pursue more challenging areas that stimulate the use of analytical thinking and foster new curiosities. Currently I am a student assistant in two areas that are dear to my heart: Chemistry and Hospitality. While many may not see how the two connect, I think they do so in many ways. The ability to communicate and be friendly with people from all facets of life is at the forefront of the hospitality industry. This is an important skill to have and develop regardless or ones career goal. My diverse interests and experiences have allowed me to develop a unique way of studying and approaching everyday situations. I am a: Leader Problem solver Team builder Challenge taker Send an email to s.j.rolle@hotmail.com to contact me.

Currently, I am working alongside advanced graduate and undergraduate students under the supervision of a research faculty mentor. Reactive oxygen species can cause oxidative damage to DNA. Adverse effects of such damage are combated by DNA repair mechanisms which include the removal of oxidative lesions by DNA base excision repair (BER). Our research studies focus on BER and its relation to trinucleotide repeat (TNR) expansion, TNR-related neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.
