Shayna Ryan

I am a junior with a major in accounting at the University of San Diego. I have completed two years of college and taken financial and managerial accounting. I am currently taking cost accounting and intermediate accounting. My current plan is to become a certified public accountant. I have a strong work ethic, academic achievement, leadership and team skills, and work experience. I have been working in a variety of jobs for over the past two years including retail, volleyball summer camps, and a start-up company in San Francisco, Sprig. In each instance I was able to quickly learn new skills, handle financial transactions, take on new and increasing levels of responsibility, and meet deadlines. In addition, my leadership and teaming skills are demonstrated through my involvement in crew (rowing) and the Kappa Delta sorority. Based on my academic record at Lowell High School (ranked within the top 10 in California) and my performance on the crew team (rowing) all four years of high school, I was recruited to USDs womens crew team. I competed on the USD team during my freshman year successfully which required a significant commitment of time and tenacity. In my sophomore year, I decided to forgo involvement in the crew team to enable me to use the skills I mastered through this sport to get more involved in other activities in college and to work to reduce the financial burden upon graduation. After joining the sorority Kappa Delta, I was elected to chair the t-shirt chair merchandise committee, a role I still hold. In this role I (i) design merchandise, (ii) manage relationships with the companies retained to create and deliver the merchandise, (iii) ensure the sorority stays within the budget, and (iv) facilitate the payment and accounting for these activities. This position has enhanced leadership and organizational skills, while at the drawing on my collaborative personality which I used to help hold my sorority accountable and become a valued customer.
