2016 Sage Project Honoree - recognizes female and female identifying students who have demonstrated innovation, creativity, risk-taking and leadership skills in their academic and personal lives.
The Women's Center highlights their rich, unique, and inspiring stories so they can inspire a wide range of students, who will in turn see they can create their own amazing story. Stories are featured on display boards that travel around campus and highlighted on the Center's website.

2016 - Alpha Kappa Mu National Scholastic Honor Society via the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - is a general scholarship honor society open to juniors and seniors in all academic areas. It was founded at Tennessee A&I State College (now known as Tennessee State University) on November 26, 1937. Alpha Kappa Mu was admitted to membership in the Association of College Honor Societies in 1952. The Mu Mu chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu was installed at Kent State on April 21, 1981.

Recipient of the Rosemary Amos Scholarship
2015 Rosemary Rita Amos, Ed.D., M.P.H was a faculty member in the Dept. of Allied Health Sciences (now Health Education and Promotion) from 1970 to 1978. She was the department's first chairperson, holding the position from 1970 to 1974. She was not only a fine teacher, but her generosity was known to a number of students. The scholarship was established to both perpetuate her memory but also the principle of aiding students with financial need.

2015 - Eta Sigma Gamma is the national health education honorary. The mission of the honorary is promotion of the discipline by elevating the standards, ideals, competence and ethics of professionally prepared men and women in health education. The Rho chapter at Kent State was established in 1974 in the College and Graduate School of Education, Health and Human Services. Members engage in variety of activities that support the three main tenets of ESG: teaching, service and leadership.

Spring 2016 Karamu Ya Wahitimu
Karamu Ya Wahitimu, Swahili for Celebration of the Graduates, is a pre-commencement celebration and final Rites of Passage graduation ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of all graduating African, African American, Native American and Latino/Hispanic undergraduate and graduate students.
Students are recognized in a culturally relevant format by a faculty member of color in their respective colleges, which includes the presentation of a cultural cloth.

Adult Bystander Prevention Program - IRB Approved
Program Evaluation Research Study - adults learned how to become effective human trafficking prevention bystanders for all Ohioans, particularly for the youth since they are the most vulnerable. Program addressed numerous barriers in helping victims, such as the lack of knowledge and understanding among overall communities. Furthermore, participants were introduced to key local and national stakeholders that offers services and protections for victims.

Needs Assessment Research Study - Kent State IRB Approved
Title: "Human trafficking awareness and attitudes among high school students"
Participants: 61 students from Bedford High School (10th - 12th) enrolled in health and wellness classes as well as members of the TLC student committee (Teens Who Listen and Care).
Purpose: to assess teens knowledge, awareness, attitudes and prevention skills regarding human trafficking. Also to assess their preference for health education programming regarding human trafficking.

For Advocacy & Policy Issues in Health Education & Promotion course, students were required to write a letter to an editor about a health issue of their choice and forward for possible publication. The chosen health issue was organ donation and the name of the published article was "Celebrate National Donate Life Month."

Meeting with a state representative for Advocacy & Policy Issues Course
In April 2015, secured a meeting with congressional staff members (Beverly R. Charles and Ariella Brown) at Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge's office of the 11th District of Ohio. My classmates and I advocated about domestic and international human trafficking. In addition, we were required to prepare background materials to support our position.

Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008
Wrote follow-up letter to congressional staff opposing any legislation or other efforts designed to weaken the law and deprive children fleeing violence of the care they deserve. Reiterated that Congress should work to protect children who are here, while also address root causes that make children & adults vulnerable to sex and labor trafficking in their home countries. Furthermore, asked that they oppose all attempts to amend or eliminate any protections in the law.

Recruits high school students for the Healthy Teens, Healthy Tomorrow Teen Summits which is a research study/program approved by Case Western Reserve University’s Institutional Review Board. Consortium partners are Cleveland MOTTEP, Lifebanc, Kidney Foundation of Ohio, Eversight Ohio, and Case MetroHealth Center for Reducing Health Disparities.
Cultivated relationships with 5 new high schools, with a total of 12 schools that participated during the grant period.
Coordinated 4 teen summits with approximately 450 student participants and additional school chaperones.
Organizes, host, and supervise Teen Summits: researching and identifying venues, enlisting guest speakers, supervising staff and volunteers, coordinating school transportation, procuring caterers, designing and conducting program orientations with schools, following-up with schools on all matters and collecting consent forms, and creating and distributing informational packets and thank you letters.
Evaluates program surveys and generates reports.
Provides program data for grant reporting.
Leads Teen Summit Consortium Meetings and creates meeting agenda.
Notifies principal investigator and research staff of any protocol deviations and/or adverse effects.
