Tarra Kraft

I have various experiences within the field of education, whether that is teaching experiences in various K-12 school districts or as a migrant education teacher. My strong desire to help students with their academic, personal, and social needs coupled with what I have learned from working within the classroom setting makes me a strong candidate as a school counselor. Through my coursework in both Education and Counseling, I have gained an understanding of the effectiveness of counseling programs within a school system. I have come into contact with a diverse student population whose learning and social functioning levels cover a wide spectrum. As an intern for Heidelberg University, I will be running classroom guidance lessons, individual and group counseling sessions, as well as, collaborating with various faculty and staff members. By focusing on the students accomplishments and promoting a positive self-concept, I believe my work within the education and counseling field will only serve as a positive foundation for counseling students within any given school district. Over the past semester, I have furthered my counseling experience by serving as an intern in a K-5 building, working with many students diagnosed with Autism, Aspergers, and Emotional Disturbed. Our activities revolved around specific goals targeted towards social skills groups. It is extremely rewarding to know that I am someone with whom my students can work with to achieve these greater goals of socialization within and outside the classroom. This gives me great personal and professional satisfaction that I am a positive force and influence in these childrens lives. my dedication to the field of education, and more specifically counseling is both proven and strong.
