AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter of Lehigh University (LUAMSA)
As a club we host speakers from medical school admissions as well as doctors themselves, raise money which goes to a charity each year, and go to community service events. During the Fall 2016 - Spring 2017 I was the Community Service Chair. We participated in events such as Bingo For a Cure and helped out in the pediatric wing at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA and the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA. During Fall 2017- Spring 2018 I became the Treasurer. Responsibilities include managing all the finances to hold events. To raise money for our club, I have set up a dodge ball tournament and a five on five basketball tournament called "Make a Swish for Make a wish." Part of the proceeds will go to our club and the rest will be donated to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Student Researcher at Lehigh University

The research is focused on the heparin receptor Transmembrane Protein 184a which actively participates in modulating blood vessel growth. While some mechanisms are unclear, my research aims at determining whether it serves as a signaling molecule, affecting vascular endothelial cadherin during sprout growth production. Elucidating the mechanisms will aid in the development of angiogenetic therapies for those suffering from atherosclerosis, certain cancers, & serious wounds. Responsibilities include knocking down the receptor in zebrafish embryos, performing immunofluorescence, and simulating potential interactions between the receptor and a heparan sulfate chain using Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD)

August 2017 - May 2019
Summer Research Surgery Scholar at Lehigh Valley Health Network

Observed surgeries ranging from a kidney transplant to left peritoneal craniotomy. Researched right internal jugular vein thrombus in patients undergoing veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation through the in-house database and additional electronic hospital records. Presented the results at the 27th annual ELSO conference in San Diego, CA and the 54th Annual Meeting of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society (ECSS) in Tampa, FL. The abstract is published in the online journal Innovations. Following the program, I was an intern for the Fall semester, which involved coordinating events between the hospital and local universities, which allowed students to attend journal club meetings, grand rounds, etc. Come the summer, I was either observing in the O.R, or researching survival rates of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement patients with and without Dialysis. The poster was presented at ECSS in Jacksonville, FL

Summer Intern at Beggs Laboratory Boston Children's Hospital
Worked in the Beggs laboratory at the Boston Children's Hospital in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Genetics and Genomics Research conducting a summer long experiment to determine whether one copy of Acnt2 is enough for normal muscle function and whether a phenotype could be exacerbated under stressed conditions. Components of the experiment included genotyping the mice, performing t-tests on numeric data, dissecting, staining (H&E and immunofluorescence), and observing the muscle sections under a microscope. At the conclusion of the experiment I did a formal presentation of the results to Dr. Beggs and the rest of his team.
