Sometimes called Quiz Bowl or Academic Decathlon, Academic League is essentially competitive question answering. Each team is made of five members at a time and face an opposing team once a week. Competitors can buzz in to answer the question posed by the moderator, and are granted points if they answer correctly. At the end of the 2016-2017 season, the Grossmont High School Academic League team was second in the district, losing by one point to the reigning champions at Santana High School.

Must attend every rehearsal, master marching technique, and memorize both the marching pattern and 3-4 movements of music to put together an 8-10 minute show for competition, as well as a parade march. Requires participation on concert band as well. Clarinet Section Leader: Designated Section Leader for Soprano and Bass clarinets, runs sectionals once per week, coordinates with band leadership on issues, keeps section up to speed on current music assignments and on proper clarinet technique. Secretary: Takes attendance at rehearsals, takes leadership meeting minutes, coordinates with band board, and tracks relevant documents. Librarian: Distributes and copies music for all students, organizes library by ensemble, piece, and composer, keeps log of all pieces in library.
