Alyssa Thompson was recognized for studying abroad

UNG Spring Break: Nursing in Uganda I was one of two biology students to attend the Nursing Program trip to Namuwombi, Uganda over spring break during my senior year. This trip had two main teams: nursing and physical therapy. I assisted the nursing students (three of whom I served with previously in Bolivia) in caring for Uganda natives.

Alyssa Thompson was recognized for earning an academic award

FUSE Grant - I was one of nine teams participating in the Faculty Undergraduate Student Engagement (FUSE) Program during the summer between my junior and senior year. This six week program provided both student and faculty stipends and up to $500 in materials cost. This grant allowed me to continue my undergraduate research during the summer, not restricted by other classes and assignments. I worked closely with my professor and presented research updates at the three FUSE progress meetings.

UNG Summer: Nursing in Bolivia I was one of four biology pre-medicine students selected to go on the Healthcare Study Abroad trip to Cochabamba, Bolivia during the summer between my junior and senior year. The week-long trip allowed me to gain hands-on experience from skilled nursing graduate and undergraduate students, and local Bolivian doctors. By the end of the trip, I had gained experience in pharmacy, triage, general medicine, and women's health.

Honors Program - Dahlonega

I was accepted into the Honors Program before matriculating at the University of North Georgia in Fall of 2013. To remain in good standing, you must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA, complete 24 hours of honors classes (6+ hours at either the 3000 or 4000 level), obtain a significant leadership position on campus before your junior year, and complete and defend an Honors Thesis.
