Amber Hammes

My name is Amber Hammes and I am currently a sophomore in Agriculture and Society with a minor in Animal Science at Iowa State University. I am originally from Ankeny, Iowa where I grew up raising and showing Suffolk frame sheep and horses. I was heavily active in the Polk County 4-H program, and volunteer work with a ministry that partnered with ChildServe and a support group for families with foster and adopted children. At Iowa State I have been involved in Sigma Alpha Professional Sorority, Block and Bridle, and Agriculture and Society Club. I am serving as a co-chair for the Recognition Committee in Sigma Alpha, and served as a tri-chair for Block and Bridle in the Power Up With Protein project at VEISHEA. In November 2014 I studied abroad in New Zealand where I studied the agricultural systems, environmental issues, and the exportation market economy of New Zealand, while gaining an appreciation of the history, culture and geography of the country and its people. Upon graduation, I hope to enter into a job relating to Public Relations for an agricultural company with a small firm atmosphere. I have always enjoyed writing and the agricultural industry, and hope to better it in any way that I can. I also have an interest in Government Relations, and would like to explore that avenue further.
