Cooper Royer

Majoring in Animal Science
Iowa State University
From Indianola, IA
I grew up in Indianola, Iowa where I was involved in showing cattle and pigs through 4-H and FFA. It is through these organizations that I learned valuable leadership and speaking skills. I am currently a junior majoring in Animal Science at Iowa State University. My main focus of study is in the fields of reproduction and nutrition in livestock. At Iowa State I have become involved in as many different things as possible to make myself better as a potential employee. The Alpha Gamma Rho Agricultural Fraternity has given me networking and connections in the agriculture industry that I never thought possible. Being involved in Greek Week Central has really expanded my leadership role on campus. I have also been involved in College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassadors, Block and Bridle, Farm Op Club, and Bacon Expo. Being involved in many things has taught me the importance of responsibility and organizing my time wisely in order to get all tasks accomplished. This past summer I was a Cow/Calf intern at Summit Agricultural Group in Hubbard, Iowa. At Summit, I was given many responsibilities including feeding, treating, and heat checking heifers and cows. I also learned a lot about embryo transfer and gained a greater confidence in operating large machinery. My interests include reproduction, animal breeding, genetics and EPDs, nutrition, and sales. Ever since I bought my own small herd of Red Angus cattle, I have gained a great interest in EPDs, and love looking at traits in order to enhance the genetics and profitability of my herd. In 2012 I took an Artificial Insemination class through Genex. Since then I have gained a lot of experience in estrus synchronization and artificial insemination by breeding my own cows. Skills: Animal Breeding, Livestock, Agriculture, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
