Christopher Terry, PhD

Associate Professor of Psychology, Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Elmira College
From Baltimore, MD
I joined the faculty at Elmira College in 2009. With training as an experimental psychologist, my primary interests as an instructor are focused on teaching undergraduate courses across several research areas, including cognitive and physiological psychology, adult development and aging, and health psychology. I also teach research methods and statistics, as well as the history of psychology, and I enjoy teaching courses that explore special topics such as sleep, memory, multitasking, and aging in America. Born and raised near Baltimore, Maryland, I earned my B.S. in psychology from Towson University in 2003. After a curious summer working in a rat lab at the National Institute on Aging, I followed my interest in the field of cognitive aging to Syracuse University, where I earned both my M.S. (2005) and Ph.D. (2009) in Experimental Psychology. My research interests focus on multitasking and divided attention, with a special interest in the way individuals develop strategies for managing multiple tasks over time. Specifically, I'm interested in the factors that motivate the use of different task-management strategies, and the mechanisms that support effective multitasking in daily life. Currently, I live in Corning, NY and I enjoy spending my free time exploring the Finger Lakes and the Adirondacks.
