Jamie Chornoby

Majored in Sociology And Anthropology, Minored in English
Ohio Wesleyan University, Class of 2016
From Clinton Township, MI
I am wrapping up my senior year at Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) with a major in Sociology/Anthropology. I am most passionate about social research, policy, and activism. My academic work is particularly concerned with the interplay between micro and macro levels of analysis in terms of method, theory, and application. Some of the projects I am currently working on are Understanding Gender through Frameworks of Power, Organizational Inequities: Part-Time Professionals, and Looking Back and Looking Forward: Classical Theories of Social Power and Organizations. Beyond my coursework, I have been able to transfer my research and policy related skills into a professional setting as Assessment Assistant for the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at OWU. My primary tasks involve analyzing, organizing, and processing data that comes from surveys, interviews, and tests. Some of this research is used to solve problems by changing polices or practices at the university level.

Assessment Assistant at Ohio Wesleyan University
As Assessment Assistant, I help the university determine the extent to which students reach learning objectives. This is done by analyzing, organizing, and summarizing the results of various assessments. The data that I have worked with most closely has come from senior surveys, senior exit interviews, the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+), and a survey on faculty use of rubrics. Additionally, I meet with and take minutes for the Assessment Committee.
August 2015 - Present
General Assistant at American Postal Workers Union
For many years, I have worked with the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) for the Detroit District Areal Local (DDAL). Though I have done many different types of work for the APWU, most of my involvement focused on administrative tasks, such as filing, copying, faxing, and organizing paperwork. Also, I have helped set up for various meetings, events, and trainings. Another way in which I have served the DDAL is by editing and revising some of their written and oral communications (e.g. speeches and articles) and preparing documents to be mailed. I completed the bulk of my work for the DDAL during middle and high school; however, occasionally, when I am in Michigan for breaks from college, I attend events and help in whatever capacity necessary. This position was primarily volunteer-based, but I did work for pay compensation at various points for particular events or projects.
