John Heeg

Member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
From Columbia, IL
John has always had a passion for education. He started teaching during his first year of high school, serving as President of a Youth Leadership Organization. This group was so successful that John was later asked to instruct a Conversational Spanish class for students of all ages. When John began college, he saw many students drop out of their dream program because they could not pass their mathematics courses. He felt a calling to understand math and then share his knowledge and enthusiasm to inspire his own students to believe in themselves and succeed in math so they can pursue their dreams. John earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in his math courses and performed his own mathematical research alongside a faculty mentor. John has taught math for middle and high school students at 4 schools in Illinois. He is fluent in Spanish and has taught English and math in Granada, Spain as well as in a Bilingual First Grade class in Illinois. In his free time, John currently studies French, Mandarin Chinese, and computer programming. He also directs theatre for middle school students in Columbia Illinois.
