Activities

Education Club

Spring 2013-I was a member. I participated in events such as the ASL Storytelling activity, Teacher Panel, and the Children's Fair. Fall 2013-I was club president and organized activities such as a presentation by MVCC's Ed Tech dept, a Teacher Panel, and pairing with RASA for Family Fun Night. Spring 2014-I was club co-president, again organizing activities and fundraising. Members of the club went to the annual NYSAEYC conference and displayed their thematic unit presentations.

Work Experience

Student Assistant at Utica Gear Up

I was a tutor for the college math prep classes during the Spring 2013 semester helping students as needed on their projects and homework. In the summer of 2013, I ran the "discovery" class which included leading fun activities related to the math concepts the students were learning.

Math Tutor at The Learning Center

Open math lab tutoring, one-on-one appointments, and embedded in developmental math classes. I tutor all math classes up to and including Calculus 1. I am currently the only tutor for the math classes for education majors. I also run test reviews and extra final exam review sessions for the developmental math classes.

Professional Tutor at Mohawk Valley Community College-Utica Branch

I tutor students in many levels of math from basic arithmetic through calculus and other higher math; this also includes statistics and education math courses for which tutors are few and far between. I work with students one-on-one and in an open lab setting. I am also a supplemental instructor where I am embedded in developmental math courses to assist the teacher and students in group settings, run test reviews in class, and offer a familiar, friendly face when the students come to the Learning Commons for help. Finally, I run review sessions for final exams in many of the math courses offered on top of my regular hours and duties.

In this work-study position in Educational Technologies, I assisted instructors and administrators with a variety of technology including internet/network connectivity issues, projectors, SmartBoards, setting up connections for web and phone conferences, DVD players, and TVs.
