Lucy Mahaffey

Member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
From Norman, Okla.
A full-time junior at OU, I founded HOPE Student Awareness, a statewide anti-trafficking curriculum for students. With $10,000 from Davis Projects for Peace, I worked with the State Superintendent of Education, one national and three local anti-trafficking organizations; we have educated over 2000 students. For eight years, I have fought trafficking. On top of co-founding OU's anti-trafficking ( Off the Market) symposium, a team of graduate researchers and I developed an executive summary for the US Department of State on due process and criminal systems for traffickers globally. My most recent speaking engagements include TEDxOU 2015 and the US Department of Homeland Security and Department of Educations Stakeholder Conference in D.C. this April. In spring 2015 I interned at Free the Slaves in D.C., interviewing key experts with Deloitte Consulting to create a report on the current state of anti-trafficking efforts.
