Melinda Carlison

Majored in Master In Business Administration
Ithaca College, Class of 2016
From Ithaca, NY
I am a recent MBA graduate from the Ithaca College School of Business seeking opportunities to advance my education in work-family organizational policy through PhD programs. My career goals involve teaching at the collegiate level and conducting research on company policy and leadership influence on career-family balance and organizational culture in the workplace. Currently, I am the Proposal Development Coordinator for Centurion Technology, a hands-on business development consulting firm specializing in the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), and other government research funding programs. The company helps small innovative companies match their ideas with funding opportunities. I previously held an administrative assistant position with the company while engaged in the MBA program. While obtaining my graduate degree, I worked as an undergraduate and graduate Teaching Assistant in the Management Department at Ithaca College focusing on leadership, team development, and ethics. I was also engaged as a Research Assistant for Christine Bataille, PhD. Our study, titled "The Transition to Fatherhood: Men's Narrative Identity Work on the Path to Working Father", was selected for forum presentation at the 2016 Work and Family Researchers Network conference and for presentation at the 19th Annual James J. Whalen Symposium. As part of my RA position, I learned to construct a literature review, analyze and code data, and academic paper development. My strong interest and desire to promote research at Ithaca College led to a pilot program for graduate research assistants in the School of Business. I presented the preliminary findings of our research both at the WFRN conference (June 2016) and at the 19th Annual Whalen Symposium at Ithaca College (April 2016, award winner). I obtained a scholarship to fund class credit for the study and continue to work on the project post graduation.
