I value a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and honest feedback. My greatest strengths are: My ability to think critically and solve problems. My passion for furthering my education and being a life-long learner. My ability to recognize and highlight strengths in others, to better themselves and achieve goals. At James Madison University, I learned a lot about social behavior and motivation through my research, volunteering, and course work. Since graduating from JMU, I have been working toward an M.Ed. degree in Counselor Education, focusing on Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The University of Mississippi. Ive attempted to make the most of my experience in Mississippi by utilizing my strengths in multiple research groups, supervised counseling, volunteer work, and an executive position on The Graduate Student Council. Graduate Assistant at University of Mississippi Campus Recreation (RebelADE)
RebelADE uses a combination of Harm Reduction Approaches and education. Harm Reduction Approaches are a preventive intervention for college students 18 to 24 years old. They are aimed at students who have been sanctioned to attend a secondary prevention program for substance misuse and have experienced or are at risk for alcohol/drug-related problems, such as poor class attendance, missed assignments, accidents, sexual assault, and violence. Students often conform to patterns of heavy substance use they see as acceptable, while holding false beliefs about alcohol/drug’s effects or actual alcohol/drug-use norms. RebelADE is intended to help students make healthier, well educated decisions, and elicit a positive change in behavior. The program’s style is empathetic, not confrontational or judgmental. Designed to— • Increase protective behaviors • Promote reduced use of substances • Promote healthier, positive choices • Provides important information and coping skills for risk reduction RebelADE is conducted over the course of 3-5 interventions, and these brief, limited interventions have been shown to change students substance use patterns. These interventions may include, but are not limited to: Decision Making Model Seminars, Brief Interventions, Early Intervention Programs, Mentoring Sessions, Motivational Interviewing, and the Collegiate Recovery Community.
