Anna Yurkova

If youre an immigrant and a first-generation college student like me, you can understand the tremendous pressure and expectations of being a young adult in the United States. But those challenges only encourage and inspire me to be a proactive and determined individual. I am a senior at Susquehanna University with a double major in political science and international studies. My active participation on campus has shown me how much a determined individual like me can learn and give back to the community. Getting involved with the campus community taught me to step out of my comfort zone and develop essential teamwork skills. I currently hold leadership positions in Student Government, Initiative for Democracy, and Operation Smile. Working two jobs requires time management and organizational abilities that are now a natural habit in my every day life. Being a member of a service fraternity showed me that even one hour of volunteering can make such a tremendous difference on a community. And finally, my summer internship with Laura Devine Attorneys provided me with an opportunity to apply my passion and experience in research and management in a real-world manner.
