Loyola Rhetoric Society
I am the co-founder and President of the Loyola Rhetoric Society, a student group that fosters the critical analysis and production of rhetoric, the art of persuasion, for intellectual, professional, and civic ends. Towards these ends, the Society has regular meetings and events, including talks, debates, and discussions, which promote rhetorical thinking, speaking, and writing. The Society believes that rhetoric touches every aspect of human culture--politics, advertising, science, literature, art, history, law--and therefore welcomes students of all majors who wish to explore the rhetorical features of their own and other disciplines. Besides holding weekly meetings on rhetorical components in Super Bowl commercials, Presidential debates, Facebook comment-section fights, professional interviews, history, and more, the Society has invited speakers, and even organized and hosted a debate among three students and two professors on topics like safe-spaces, guns, and race. About 250 people attended the debate and heard closing remarks from our invited guest, a Loyola alumni and LA Times White House Correspondent. Corporate Law and Litigation Legal Intern, Docket Department Assistant, Statutory Agent Assistant at Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff
In the Summer months of 2014, 2015, and 2016, I worked full time under many Partners, Associates, and Support Staff employees at a large-scale Corporate Law Firm based in Cleveland, Ohio. I briefed large bodies of documents and correspondence to the attorneys, as well as researched non-legal subjects relevant to cases, such as the chemistry and engineering of consumer technological innovations, the organization and strategy of many large US and foreign corporations, and more. Additionally, I interacted regularly with clerks and administrators of the local government to record and obtain relevant court documents, and kept track of the Docket Entry Log for over 20 cases similarly situated in a class-action lawsuit. In my time here, I have used my Proficiency in Spanish to assist in trademark, misrepresentation, and fraud cases. I have also created the naming convention for all saved intra-firm court documents, and organized a database of local court rules for all 88 counties in Ohio. Finally, the State of Ohio requires all businesses to maintain a Statutory Agent, which facilitates the communication between the Courts and the business. This law firm offers a Statutory Agent service, and I audited their service lists of four-thousand businesses to ensure accurate information.
