August, 13 2018 - Iowa State UniversityI provide home childcare and early education for children ages 1 year-4 years. In addition I participate in Iowa's Quality Rating System and have earned a 4 out of 5 star rating. I'm currently working on my 5th star.
Owning a successful home childcare business requires me to possess many skills and wear many different hats on a daily basis.
Organizational, self-accountability and prioritization skills are a must as I'm tasked with keeping paperwork for my program and paperwork for each enrolled child organized, immediately accessible and updated to meet state regulations. In addition, I'm tasked with keeping information organized for tax purposes, Child Care Assistance and the Child and Adult Food Program.
Great communication skills are a necessity when working with young children who aren't able to tell their parents about their day-to-day happenings. Gauging what each parent wants, should, and needs to be informed of is a skill that has been finely tuned over many years.
Patience, a positive attitude, empathy and flexibility are all vital when working with young children and their families who all have different needs, wants, knowledge and expectations of early childhood.
Additionally, qualities such as competence, knowledge of early childhood, strong ethics and confidence assist me in making tough decisions when needed.
