Catherine Yankley

My name is Cate Yankley and I enjoy traveling to foreign places, photography, and getting to know new people. I hope to combine my passion for traveling and meeting others through partaking in business at an international level. I have changed my major twice now, and I truly know that International Business is the right path for me and my aspirations. Although I have changed my mind a few times, every field had one thing in common: helping people. Originally, I wanted to teach English as a second language abroad, and then I had the desire to become a therapist. I now understand that neither field is right for me because I want to travel, volunteer, and work for a non-profit organization overseas. I have been volunteering in several organizations for more than half of my life, including my participation in Mentor Training programs against bullying, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Habitat for Humanity. As a person who has immense passion for people, all things international, and volunteering, I hope to create a worldwide charity once I am established. Prior to developing my own volunteer organization, first I want to work overseas and find my niche. I want nothing more than to blend my appreciation for business and my love for people together, which will hopefully turn into an extremely fulfilling career. Even though I am a business major, I do not want to have the typical desk job; I want to impact loved ones and those in need equally.

Technical Communications Intern at Consumers Energy
I have worked closely with the Organizational Change Management team in order to successfully implement changes in our IT department. Two of these changes are Technology as a Service and Service Now (SNOW). I have also worked with a Technical Communications team in order to communicate these changes effectively, and uniquely. Through this team, I have learned how to use programs such as Camtasia, and eventually Piktochart and Go Animate.

Staff Writer at The Valley Vanguard at Saginaw Valley State University
As a staff writer, I typically cover major on-campus stories and events each week. This entails selecting an assignment, interviewing individuals involved, and attending important events. My first story pertained to an event called "Princess for a Day," hosted by Phi Sigma Sigma, a volunteer-based sorority at SVSU. The latest story completed to date covered a new 5K that SVSU's Roberts Fellowship hosted in order to raise awareness of malaria in Africa.
