Jenna Uryevick

Majoring in English
SUNY Oswego
From Huntington Station, NY
I have theorized that we are all ultimately a subject in this universe that is comprised of other people. To expand lightly, I strongly believe that we are not necessarily our own person, but that we are ideas of other people comprised into a single subject (subject - a mind, disembodied from what we consider "human"... a subject is no more than a representation of a human). I believe that every square inch of everyones being is made up of someone else. It may be as simple as you get your accent from your parents, your music taste from an ex-lover, and your style from a friend. If my theory is correct, a quick conclusion can be drawn, we are all one. Culture, race relations, ethnicity, and international affairs have always intrigued me. As an English major, I hope to use my knowledge and degree to write about how diverse and rich cultures are, how different cultures interact and why, and how all of this eventually effects our own self. If my theory is correct, we need to blend ideas within culture and we need to share concepts. We need to share the knowledge we are sure we know and absorb knowledge we are given. It may be hard to imagine, but I often dream of a world where diversity is a gift. Where cultures share their beliefs, opinions, concerns... all for one common goal, unification. Carlos Sirah once said, "You have to unsettle, to settle more deeply." You have to uproot tradition, morph predisposed ideas, and merge opinions to create a better way of life. We have to start somewhere, and what a better place to start then with an ambitious, young, open-minded, woman, who is beyond eager to make a change. I have uploaded a variety of writing pieces that I have completed, ranging from argumentative theories to published works of poetry. I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little through these platforms, I put my all into my writing and I believe my voice is loud and unique. Please contact me for any questions, concerns, job opportunities, etc.
