April, 21 2015 - Fayetteville State UniversityI work under the mentorship of Dr. Zhu, the Associate Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, in order to study the impact of heat stress on wheat resistance to Hessian fly pests.
I work under the guidance of Dr. Salek as a volunteer at the REEF. I am responsible for checking water quality which includes examining nitrates, phosphates, salinity, pH, and etc.. I also feed the fish and keep the facility organized. Dr. Salek has also allowed me to present at programs held at the REEF.
I shadowed three veterinarians in order to learn about the entire clinical process. I worked alongside the doctors by assisting them with examinations, administering vaccinations and medications, surgeries, animal observations, patient after care, and animal restraint. As a kennel assistant, I was responsible for keeping up with maintenance duties inside the hospital. I also worked closely with the patients by cleaning their kennels, feeding them, walking them, and providing minimal grooming services, including nail grinds/trims, baths, and de shedding.
