Katherine Dodson
I double-majored in Communication Studies and Psychology with concentrations in Organizational Communication/PR and Experimental Psychology/Neuroscience and graduated on May 17, 2014 with a B.A. I hope to earn a Ph.D. in Psychology someday and focus on clinical research, but I am also interested in consumer/market research.
At Wilkes, I've contributed writing and photography to The Beacon (newspaper) and The Medium (Communication Studies newsletter). I have had photos published in The Manuscript (student art/literature magazine), did PR writing for two account teams within Zebra Communications (student PR firm), and wrote and edited for Psychles (Psychology newsletter). During the summer of 2013, I interned in foster/adoption services at the Institute for Human Resources and Services in Kingston, PA, where I combined skills from both majors while observing and interacting with children and families, writing child and family bio sketches, and writing child progress reports. Both of my senior research projects were accepted for presentation at professional conferences in their respective fields. I presented on a student panel at the Eastern Communications Association conference in Providence, RI, in April 2014, and I presented at a student poster show at the Eastern Psychological Association conference in Boston, MASS, in March 2014.
My hobbies include digital photography, playing the piano, hiking/biking, and urban exploration. Right now, I work part-time in customer service and volunteer for an online nonprofit that provides 24/7 non-judgmental listening services and referrals to other resources for people in emotional crisis.
