I was born in Democratic Republic of Congo and came to the US in 2002. I had lost both my parents and was adopted by an American couple in 2005. In 2007 I graduated from Achievement House Charter School, where I was valedictorian. I am a senior at York College where I am majoring in International Relations and furthering my interest in national and international politics. I am fluent in five languages: English, French, Lingala, Kicongo, and Kiyombe. In 2012 I founded the Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation; our goal is to build an orphanage in Congo. I am a frequent speaker at colleges, schools, civic groups, and religious organizations.
