Volunteer Parent Mentor-Diabetes at Akron Children's Hospital
Mentoring parents on the day to day issues in raising a child with type 1 diabetes is a one of my favorite volunteer opportunities. Navigating sleep overs, play dates and birthday treats at school can become difficult and even frightening for both the parent and the child with diabetes. Many of these issues are very serious but do not warrant a call to the doctor's office. This is where Parent Mentors come in! I offer tips and tricks and techniques that have worked (and the ones that didn't work) for us.
