BODY IMAGE: How does media shape young girls thoughts about beauty, eating and image?
The images of beauty that we view in print, film and television project an unrealistic version of reality that we are continually told is attainable – if we work out, eat better and transform our bodies through procedures. Many young women believe that they are overweight and want to weigh less. In one study, 44% of adolescent girls believed they were overweight and 60% were actively trying to lose weight even though the majority of these young girls were within normal weight ranges (Morris, A., & Katzman, D). 4 sub-issues tackled in this infographic are Advertising, Televisions/Movies, Celebrity Impact, and Fashion Brands
