Ahmed Badr

When he was 8 years-old, Ahmed's home in Baghdad was bombed by militia troops. He and his family relocated to Syria as refugees for two and a half years before receiving approval to move to the United States. Ahmed is the Executive Director and founder of Narratio, an online platform for young artists who are facing adversity to share their stories, art, poetry and photography with the world. Narratio's mission is to diminish childhood illiteracy by empowering youth through art, poetry, photography, and storytelling. For his work with Narratio, Ahmed was recently selected as one of thirty Global Teen Leaders by the We Are Family Foundation. Ahmed is also a published writer, and his work has been featured on Fusion, the Houston Chronicle, and UNICEF's Voices of Youth. Ahmed is currently finishing up a book that will encompass his experiences during his family's journey to America. Ahmed is a senior a J. Frank Dobie High School in Houston, Texas, and will be joining Wesleyan University's class of 2020.

Global Teen Leader at We Are Family Foundation
30 Global Teen Leaders (GTL’s) are selected based upon their creation of a project or organization that addresses major issues in their communities. Ahmed was chosen for his work with Narratio, an organization he co-founded that seeks to empower youth and alleviate childhood illiteracy. GTL’s participate in the The 2016 Just Peace Summit that will take place March 5 - 11, 2016 in New York City, and are paired with a mentor that will assist them in their respective projects or organizations.

Narratio is a platform for creative expression that seeks to alleviate childhood illiteracy by empowering youth through the publishing of poetry, photography, art and narrative. It publishes works of art from all over the globe, and hosts workshops centered around the power of storytelling and creativity. Narratio firmly believes in providing artists with the platform to share their work with the world, producing stories FOR mankind and OF every kind.
