Amanda Reed

Amanda Reed is from St. Marys, WV. She currently attends Marietta College where she is pursuing a BA in Psychology and a Gender Studies Minor. She will begin graduate studies during her senior year at Marietta and finish with her Master's degree in Psychology in 2016. Amanda has a variety of work related experiences including working as a medical assistant where she learned confidentiality skills as well as HIPPA privacy laws. She enhanced her interpersonal skills greatly through direct contact with screen participants. She also learned a significant amount of information about the medical setting. As a phone team employee at Marietta College, Amanda called hundreds of high school students interested in pursuing a higher education. She learned significant communication skills from her time as a phone team member. Additionally, Amanda also worked as a REM Community Options direct service provider in St. Marys, WV. She assisted adults with mental and physical disabilities with their daily activities. She learned how to care for several individuals and assist them with necessary tasks. Her experiences are beneficial to her career as a psychology student as she learns about human behavior and brain function. Amanda was selected to sing in the West Virginia All State Chorus in 2010 and 2011. She sings soprano and is a member of the Marietta College Women's Choir. She was voted most outstanding soprano in the spring of 2014. She performs music for local events including benefits, reunions, and festivals. She plays acoustic guitar and shares her love for music with her dad, who is an accomplished guitar player. Music plays a huge role in her professional and personal life. Amanda took part in a three week international trip to England and France in July 2010. She learned everything that she could about the culture as a People to People Student Ambassador. Her international experience enhanced her communication skills and facilitated her studies of French culture.
