Anna Cohen was recognized for earning an academic award
The Jessie Mae Pate McConagha Prize, recognizing interdisciplinary scholarship in art history within the humanities. In 2018, the prize was awarded to Anna Cohen for her interdisciplinary project examining medieval manuscript leaves held in the Wriston collection. Anna's sophisticated examination shows how manuscript destruction could be intellectually motivated and justified- while still recognizing the problematic and nuanced nature of these practices. Anna is a careful reader and writer, attentive to detail and nuanced in her thinking.

Judicial Board
The Judicial Board is a standing committee of the Lawrence University Community Council and is responsible for adjudicating alleged violations as the Social Code. The Judicial Board at Lawrence is mainly student run. While the Board does have an advisor, the Dean of Students, the advisor is a non-voting member of the Board. While many feel that the Board is for the strict purpose of adjudicating cases, its main goal is education which is achieved through campus outreach and hearing sanctions that are educational, rather than punitive, in nature. After serving on the Judicial Board as a member for two years, Anna was voted to be the chair for the Board for the 2018-2019 school year. As chair, she organized meetings and training sessions for board members, directed the recruitment process for new board members, and, most importantly, conducted hearings and guided the board through determining if violations of the Social Code occurred and sanctioning when necessary.

(De)Constructing the Medieval Book: Manuscript Folia from the Lawrence University Art Collection
The project focused on the study, research, and analysis of manuscript folia or pages from the Lawrence University Art Collection. These individual pages once belonged to manuscripts that have been dismantled during the 19th and 20th centuries and distributed/sold to various museum institutions and private collections in the US and Europe. This project seeks to shed light on the provenance of some of these manuscript folia in the Lawrence Collection, consider the processes through which a medieval book no longer serves its original function(s), and digitally reconstruct one of the manuscripts from the surviving folia at Lawrence and other institutions.

Male Gaze or Male Graze? Considering the Tactile Nature of Rupert Carabin's 1896 Furniture Set
Resulting from the Art History Senior Research Seminar, Anna's Senior Capstone examined a set of furniture made by the Art Nouveau artist, Rupert Carabin, which shockingly includes nude women in their forms. Her project focused on understanding the artist's motivations for sculpting the work in a highly polished wood and the non-classical bodies of the women included. The analysis also included contextualizing examples of why the furniture set may have taken contemporaneous audiences aback, but, nonetheless, are products of their own time.
