January, 22 2019 - Moravian UniversityI am currently working with (AASHE): The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's program (STARS): Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System. Using the self-reporting framework for Moravian College to measure the institution's sustainability performance. Assessing long-term sustainability goals, while recommending steps to implement future sustainable practices.
I collect and manage data gathered from various campus offices and accurately input the data into the STARS baseline assessment tool. To keep track of contacts and data collected, I organize and manage the data and information gathered into a spreadsheet. I also attend Sustainability Committee meetings where I report on my findings.
To suggest recommendations on future sustainable practices, I prepare presentations, graphs and reports that summarize and highlight the data.
During Winter Lights (Nov. - Dec.) I effectively checked in participating volunteers and placed them at their positions for the night. Each volunteer was trained on how to properly manage their station - interactive activity or costume placement. All events were to be kept to a tight schedule, which included but not limited to: princess appearances, changing of the music, volunteer rotation, opening and closing of stations, and large event nights such as the New Year's Eve Penguin Drop.
This internship required creating safe interactions between our guest and our animals, while providing knowledge and answering questions. Adhering to scheduled times, understanding the process of how the exhibits worked and making sure both the animals and our guest remained safe, was part of the experience.
The interactive exhibits included brushing the goats, kangaroo walk-a-bout tours, lorikeet landing feeds, giraffe feeds and barnyard tours.
After my Animal Care internship, I was invited to come back and continue to volunteer with Animal care. I continued to participate in the routine and do projects to help out Animal care in any way that I could.
The Animal Care internship provided practical hands-on experience for my interest in the animal keeping field. As an intern, I worked alongside the keeper staff in several different areas of the zoo learning animal care, exhibit upkeep, diet prep, enrichment, record keeping, behavioral training, public presentations, and assisting with veterinary procedures when possible. Alongside the Animal Care team at the zoo, I worked with a variety of exotic, domestic, and native animal species.
As an intern, I was subjected to both physical and environmental challenges during the ten hour day - working outside in all types of weather, and lifting up to at least fifty pounds. The zoo requires interns that are reliable, trustworthy and able to follow oral and/or written instructions. After this internship, I believe that I strengthen my observation and communication skills, my ability to work alone and in a group, my creativity, and my ability to critically think and problem solve.
Sims Quality Market is a small mini mart/convenience store, located in my neighborhood. This part-time job included properly handling money, lottery request, cigarettes, deli orders, and all other orders. Other task included taking out the trash, cleaning, helping with ice deliveries and restocking the coolers.
This job encouraged the development and demonstration of a strong customer service skill, the ability to exercise face-to-face communicational skills, and the ability to interact effectively and productively with a diverse group of customers when working alone. When taking on a new employee, I supported and assisted the new employee in learning the procedures according to the convenience store standards.
Working at Parma Pizza, this job required properly handling money, taking in house and on the phone orders and handling customer complaints and questions. Other responsibilities included making food, cleaning tables, serving customers and restocking cups/folding pizza boxes.
This job encouraged the development and demonstration of a strong customer service skill, the ability to exercise face-to-face and on the phone communicational skills, and the ability to interact effectively and productively with a diverse group of customers and coworkers.
Working in a pizza shop has given me the ability to build on my patience, my time management, my dependability, my value in myself, and to embrace learning of all kinds.
