Camp Counselors provide 24 hour care to six new campers of their own each week. The days include worship, bible studies, skill activities, pool days, and late night parties among fellow campers. Counselors watch over campers from the moment they wake up and through the following night. The Counselors live in the same rooming quarters as the campers at Young Harris College. I taught skills, such as rock climbing and hand crafts, to not only my campers but also other campers. The purpose of the camp is to show God's love to the campers and share the message of Jesus.
Helped protect and save the environment, learned about the marine wildlife, experienced South African live from up close, and met other volunteers from all over the world. I had the opportunity to learn and work closely with the endangered African Penguin and other marine birds while working with a team of South African hardworking and motivated staff. I had daily contact with the animals by giving medication to penguins and assisted in rescues and releases.
